The waters are residing but the suffering continues. The Red Cross and Red Crescent estimate that a total of 8 million people have been affected by the floods this year.
A team from the Elite Group family went to Dewangonj and Islampur in the district of Jamalpur this past weekend. Earlier, this team mentioned majority of relief efforts being concentrated in North Bengal and little being done in other areas. Accordingly, they set out a plan, and on their return, broke down intears.
One woman mentioned her children not eating the previous day, and our relief being used to cook their meals the very same day our bags were being distributed.
Approximately 1,500 bags containing items such as rice, lentils, potato were distributed. 25 cash envelopes were given to farmers whose crops were completely damaged. All recipients were pre-screened by some of our folks beforehand to ensure that efforts were concentrated on the needy.
